1. Overview

The ECO-ESS ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) monitors your mains grid supply and backup (EPS) power supply. When the grid fails, the ATS automatically transfers your load to the backup supply and notifies you instantly via push notification and email.

The system consists of:

The ATS works locally even without internet. Wi-Fi and the portal enable remote monitoring and notifications — your ATS will continue to switch power automatically regardless of connection status.

2. What's in the Box

Your ECO-ESS ATS comes pre-provisioned and ready to install. Inside the packaging you'll find:

2.1 Understanding the Unit Label

The label on the unit carries everything you need to set up and register the device. Example layout (values below are placeholders — the real label has the actual serial, SSID, and password):

3. Installer Guide — Wi-Fi Setup

v1.1 supports phone setup. You can complete the Wi-Fi setup from any phone browser — no laptop or software download required. The old laptop-based method still works as an alternative (see Section 3.4).

3.1 Before You Begin

3.2 Connect Your Phone to the ATS Wi-Fi

  1. Join the ATS Wi-Fi Fastest: scan QR 1 on the label with your phone camera — it prompts you to join.
Or: open Wi-Fi settings, find ECOESS-ATS-XXXXXX (exact name on the label), type the 8-character password from the label.
  2. Expect a "no internet" warning — this is normal The ATS's Wi-Fi is not a real internet connection. Your phone will flag this; you need to stay connected anyway.
    • Android: “Internet may not be available” / “Network has no internet access” — tap Stay connected, Yes, or Connect only this time.
    • iPhone: “Unable to join the network” may flash briefly then disappear — wait, it connects on its own. “No Internet Connection” under the network name is expected.
    • Windows / Mac laptop: yellow warning on the Wi-Fi icon — ignore it, you're connected.
iPhone — if the setup page won't load in the next step, toggle Mobile Data off briefly. iPhones sometimes try to route traffic over cellular when Wi-Fi has no internet.
  3. Open the setup page Fastest: scan QR 2 on the label — it opens the setup page directly.
Or: type this address into any browser:

    http://192.168.33.1/script/2/setup

No login — the device allows setup from its own AP network without a password.

3.3 Enter the Customer's Home Wi-Fi

2.4 GHz networks only. The ATS does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Use the Scan button — only compatible networks appear, so you can't pick a 5 GHz one by mistake. If a customer's router broadcasts a combined SSID, their phone may show a usable 2.4 GHz network while the ATS sees none — ask them to enable the 2.4 GHz band in router settings.

On the setup page:

  1. Tap "Scan" Picks up nearby 2.4 GHz networks, strongest first. Tap the customer's network to fill in the SSID.
  2. Enter the Wi-Fi password Case-sensitive. The field is visible (not masked) so you can verify before tapping Connect.
  3. Tap "Connect" The ATS tries to join the network. Wait ~15 seconds — the page replaces itself with a Setup complete confirmation when it succeeds.

3.4 Verify Connection

On success the setup page replaces itself with a Setup complete confirmation showing the ATS's new IP. You don't need to tap anything further.

Done. The ATS will appear as "Online" in the customer portal within ~60 seconds. Hand the customer the label — they register at myats.eco-ess.co.uk using the serial on it. The ATS's own Wi-Fi stays on permanently as a recovery fallback; you can rejoin it any time to change Wi-Fi in future.
If connect fails: wrong password is the usual cause. Re-enter and try again without reloading the page. If the scan found the network but connect times out, the router may have MAC filtering or a guest-network restriction.

3.5 Laptop Alternative (Optional)

The older laptop-based setup tool still works on v1.1 units. If you prefer it or the phone method isn't working on site, use ecoess-setup.exe from myats.eco-ess.co.uk/download:

  1. Connect a Windows laptop to the ECOESS-ATS-XXXXXX Wi-Fi using the password on the label.
  2. Run ecoess-setup.exe — it opens in your browser.
  3. Click Connect, then enter the customer's home Wi-Fi details and click Connect to Wi-Fi.

The end state is identical to the phone method — pick whichever is easier for you on site.

  1. In Home Assistant, go to Settings → Devices & Services → Add Integration
  2. Search for Shelly and select it
  3. Enter your ATS's local IP address, or let Home Assistant auto-discover it

Home Assistant will show the ATS as a controllable device with real-time sensors for grid status, contactor state, and live power readings.

Home Assistant works over your local network. ECO-ESS cloud notifications continue to work alongside it — they are completely independent.

4.9 Account Management

Change Password

Go to the Account section at the bottom of the dashboard. Click Change Password, enter your current password and new password, then click Save Password.

Forgot Password

On the login screen, click Forgot password? and enter your email. You'll receive a reset link.

Delete Account

At the very bottom of the dashboard, click Delete account. This permanently removes your account and unlinks all devices. You'll be asked to confirm with your password.

Warning: Deleting your account cannot be undone. Your devices will be unlinked and can be claimed by a new account using the serial number.

5. Changing Wi-Fi (New Router / ISP Change)

If you change your broadband provider or router, you can reconnect the ATS to your new Wi-Fi from your phone — no laptop or software download needed.

  1. Connect your phone to the ATS Wi-Fi The ATS access point (ECOESS-ATS-XXXXXX) is always active. Connect to it using the AP password on the unit label (unique per device). When your phone warns “No internet”, tap Stay connected.
  2. Open the setup page In any browser, go to http://192.168.33.1/script/2/setup.
  3. Enter your new Wi-Fi details Type the new Wi-Fi network name and password, then tap Connect to Wi-Fi.
  4. Verify Reconnect your phone to your normal Wi-Fi. Check the portal at myats.eco-ess.co.uk — your device should show as "Online" within a minute.
You do not need to re-claim or re-register the device. Your account, notifications, and settings are preserved.

As an alternative, ecoess-setup.exe (Windows laptop) also works — see Section 3.5.

6. Troubleshooting

Setup Tool Issues

Problem Solution
Can't see ECOESS-ATS Wi-Fi network Ensure the ATS is powered on. The access point broadcasts continuously. Move your laptop closer to the consumer unit.
"Cannot reach the ATS" Verify you're connected to ECOESS-ATS (not your home Wi-Fi). Check the device password matches the one on the label.
Wi-Fi connection fails / times out Double-check the Wi-Fi name and password (case-sensitive). Ensure the router is within range. Retry — the tool allows multiple attempts.
Tool doesn't open in browser The tool starts a local web server. Check your firewall isn't blocking it. Try opening http://localhost:8080 manually.

Portal Issues

Problem Solution
Device shows "Offline" Check your home internet is working. The ATS may have lost Wi-Fi — see Section 5 to reconnect. If recently installed, wait 1-2 minutes for it to come online.
Serial number rejected when claiming Ensure you're entering the code exactly as printed (format: ECO-XXXX-XXXX). The code may have already been claimed — contact support.
Push notifications not working 1. Check browser notification permissions (Settings → Notifications → allow myats.eco-ess.co.uk)
2. Ensure notifications are toggled on in the device card settings
3. Try disabling and re-enabling push notifications
Email notifications not arriving Check your spam/junk folder. Ensure email notifications are toggled on in the device card settings. Emails are sent from noreply@eco-ess.co.uk.
Force Backup toggle not responding The device must be online. Wait for the green "Online" indicator. If online but still not working, refresh the page.
Contactor states show "--" The device hasn't reported status yet. Wait a moment after the device comes online. Toggling the Force Backup switch or a power event will update the readings.
Forgot password / locked out Click "Forgot password?" on the login screen. A reset link will be sent to your email.

LED Indicators

The ATS has a status LED (Output 2) that mirrors the EPS contactor state:

LED State Meaning
ON EPS contactor (S2) is closed — load is on backup power
OFF EPS contactor (S2) is open — load is on grid (normal operation)

7. Safety & Compliance

Electrical Safety Warning
The ATS is installed inside your consumer unit and is connected to mains voltage. Never open the consumer unit or attempt to modify, move, or disconnect the ATS yourself. All installation and maintenance must be performed by a qualified electrician.
