1. Overview

The ECO-ESS ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) monitors your mains grid supply and backup (EPS) power supply. When the grid fails, the ATS automatically transfers your load to the backup supply and notifies you instantly via push notification and email.

The system consists of:

The ATS works locally even without internet. Wi-Fi and the portal enable remote monitoring and notifications — your ATS will continue to switch power automatically regardless of connection status.

2. What's in the Box

Your ECO-ESS ATS comes pre-provisioned and ready to install. Inside the packaging you'll find:

2.1 Understanding the Unit Label

3. Installer Guide — Wi-Fi Setup

v1.0 requires a Windows laptop. Phone-based setup is not supported on v1.0 units (that was added in v1.1). Do not attempt setup with only a phone on site.

The ECO-ESS ATS Setup Tool is a lightweight desktop application that connects your ATS to the customer's home Wi-Fi. It can be downloaded from myats.eco-ess.co.uk/download or provided by the installer.

3.1 Before You Begin

3.2 Connect to the ATS

  1. Connect your computer to the ATS Wi-Fi Open your computer's Wi-Fi settings and connect to the ECOESS-ATS network. The password is on the unit label (default: ecoess1234).
  2. Launch the Setup Tool Run ecoess-setup.exe. It will open in your web browser automatically.
  3. Click "Connect" The default IP address (192.168.33.1) and device password are pre-filled. Click Connect to verify communication with the ATS.

3.4 Verify Connection

The tool will apply the Wi-Fi settings and poll the device for up to 15 seconds. When successful, you'll see a confirmation:

Setting Wi-Fi credentials...
Waiting for the ATS to connect to your Wi-Fi...
Connected! Your ATS is now on your home Wi-Fi with IP 192.168.1.45.
Next: visit myats.eco-ess.co.uk and enter the serial number from your unit label to set up notifications.
That's it! The ATS is now connected to the internet and will appear as "Online" in the customer portal. The ATS's own Wi-Fi access point remains active as a recovery fallback — it does not turn off.
If the connection fails, double-check the Wi-Fi name and password. Ensure the router is within range. You can try again without restarting the tool.

3.5 Fallback: Device Settings Page from a Phone

If a Windows laptop isn't available on site, v1.0 units can be configured via the built-in device settings page from any phone browser. This is a fallback only — use the setup tool (ecoess-setup.exe) when you can. The settings page exposes advanced controls that can leave the device unusable if misused.

Do not touch on the settings page: switch on/off buttons, firmware/software update, factory reset, scripts, cloud settings, or access-point settings. Change only the STA 1 (home Wi-Fi) entry. If a customer asks what these other buttons are, tell them the ECO-ESS customer portal is the safe place to monitor the device.
  1. Connect your phone to the ATS AP Join the ECOESS-ATS-XXXXXX Wi-Fi using the password on the label (default ecoess1234). Tap "Stay connected" if the phone warns about no internet.
  2. Open the device settings page Browse to http://192.168.33.1. A login box will appear.
  3. Log in Credentials (pre-set at the factory):
    • Username: admin
    • Password: the AP password from the unit label (same one used to join the Wi-Fi in Step 1)
  4. Navigate to the home Wi-Fi setting Go to Settings → Wi-Fi → STA 1 (sometimes labelled "Networks" or "Wi-Fi"). Enable the entry, enter the customer's home SSID and password exactly (case sensitive), and tap Save.
  5. Verify Your phone's browser will disconnect as the ATS switches over to the home network — that's expected, you're no longer on the AP. Reconnect your phone to any network with internet and check the ECO-ESS customer portal (or have the customer check) — the device should report online within 60 seconds. If not, the credentials were likely wrong; rejoin the AP and retry.
What this method does NOT do: it only changes the Wi-Fi configuration. All the other settings applied at the factory (notification scripts, cloud connection, and device-security settings) are already in place and shouldn't be touched. If you suspect a configuration issue beyond Wi-Fi, return the unit to ECO-ESS for re-provisioning rather than editing the settings page.
When to recommend this to a customer: don't — the customer-facing v1.0 user manual intentionally does not document this method. If a customer is stuck without a laptop, they should contact ECO-ESS support and speak to an engineer, who will either arrange a brief service visit or walk them through this fallback on a phone call.

Home Assistant will show the ATS as a controllable device with real-time sensors for grid status, contactor state, and live power readings.

Home Assistant works over your local network. ECO-ESS cloud notifications continue to work alongside it — they are completely independent.

4.9 Account Management

Change Password

Go to the Account section at the bottom of the dashboard. Click Change Password, enter your current password and new password, then click Save Password.

Forgot Password

On the login screen, click Forgot password? and enter your email. You'll receive a reset link.

Delete Account

At the very bottom of the dashboard, click Delete account. This permanently removes your account and unlinks all devices. You'll be asked to confirm with your password.

Warning: Deleting your account cannot be undone. Your devices will be unlinked and can be claimed by a new account using the serial number.

5. Changing Wi-Fi (New Router / ISP Change)

If you change your broadband provider or router, you'll need to reconnect the ATS to your new Wi-Fi network. v1.0 units require a Windows laptop for this — phone-only reconfiguration isn't supported on v1.0.

  1. Download the Setup Tool On a Windows laptop, visit myats.eco-ess.co.uk/download and download ecoess-setup.exe.
  2. Connect to the ATS Wi-Fi The ATS access point (ECOESS-ATS) is always active. Connect to it using the password on the unit label inside your fuse box.
  3. Run the Setup Tool Follow the same steps as the initial setup (Section 3). Enter your new Wi-Fi network name and password.
  4. Verify Check the portal — your device should show as "Online" within a minute.
You do not need to re-claim or re-register the device. Your account, notifications, and settings are preserved.

6. Troubleshooting

Setup Tool Issues

Problem Solution
Can't see ECOESS-ATS Wi-Fi network Ensure the ATS is powered on. The access point broadcasts continuously. Move your laptop closer to the consumer unit.
"Cannot reach the ATS" Verify you're connected to ECOESS-ATS (not your home Wi-Fi). Check the device password matches the one on the label.
Wi-Fi connection fails / times out Double-check the Wi-Fi name and password (case-sensitive). Ensure the router is within range. Retry — the tool allows multiple attempts.
Tool doesn't open in browser The tool starts a local web server. Check your firewall isn't blocking it. Try opening http://localhost:8080 manually.

Portal Issues

Problem Solution
Device shows "Offline" Check your home internet is working. The ATS may have lost Wi-Fi — see Section 5 to reconnect. If recently installed, wait 1-2 minutes for it to come online.
Serial number rejected when claiming Ensure you're entering the code exactly as printed (format: ECO-XXXX-XXXX). The code may have already been claimed — contact support.
Push notifications not working 1. Check browser notification permissions (Settings → Notifications → allow myats.eco-ess.co.uk)
2. Ensure notifications are toggled on in the device card settings
3. Try disabling and re-enabling push notifications
Email notifications not arriving Check your spam/junk folder. Ensure email notifications are toggled on in the device card settings. Emails are sent from noreply@eco-ess.co.uk.
Force Backup toggle not responding The device must be online. Wait for the green "Online" indicator. If online but still not working, refresh the page.
Contactor states show "--" The device hasn't reported status yet. Wait a moment after the device comes online. Toggling the Force Backup switch or a power event will update the readings.
Forgot password / locked out Click "Forgot password?" on the login screen. A reset link will be sent to your email.

LED Indicators

The ATS has a status LED (Output 2) that mirrors the EPS contactor state:

LED State Meaning
ON EPS contactor (S2) is closed — load is on backup power
OFF EPS contactor (S2) is open — load is on grid (normal operation)

7. Safety & Compliance

Electrical Safety Warning
The ATS is installed inside your consumer unit and is connected to mains voltage. Never open the consumer unit or attempt to modify, move, or disconnect the ATS yourself. All installation and maintenance must be performed by a qualified electrician.
